The Savannah Wind Symphony opens its 50th anniversary season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, with the brass quintet Boston Brass as guest artists. The concert, “The Sound of Celebration,” also carries the world premiere of a new piece by composer Scott Boerma. The ensemble commissioned it for the anniversary season.
The concert is in the Fine Arts Auditorium on Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus, 11935 Abercorn St. The details are from the ensemble’s own concert page.
The season runs under the banner “Fifty Years in Concert.” Its second program is titled “Historical Reflections, 1977-2027.”
Who is playing
- Boston Brass, a brass quintet founded in 1986. The ensemble’s page says it plays classical arrangements, jazz standards and original brass music.
- Sammy K, a Grammy-nominated drummer, on drum set.
- Scott Boerma’s new work, in its first performance. The ensemble has not published its title.

What it means for you
- Book through the ensemble’s ticket page. A family of two adults and two children pays $60 for the Nov. 8 concert at the listed prices.
- Four general admission tickets bought one at a time come to $80, so the $85 season ticket does not save money at the listed prices. It covers all four concerts in one purchase.
- The Armstrong Campus is at 11935 Abercorn St., on the city’s south side.
