The 444-room Signia Hilton Savannah reached its highest beam Monday, about 200 feet up. It will join the convention center and is set to open in 2028.
The tower of the Signia Hilton Savannah has reached its full height. Crews set the building’s highest structural beam Monday, and officials marked it with a topping out ceremony at the site.
The 444-room hotel is being built beside the Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island, across the river from downtown. It will be the convention center’s headquarters hotel and connect directly to it. Hilton said it is scheduled to open in 2028.
Hilton announced the milestone in a release on Monday, Oct. 19.
The project by the numbers
Hilton published these construction figures:
- more than 1,200 workers have worked on the project so far
- more than 300 are on site each day
- more than 27,000 cubic yards of concrete poured
- 2,700 tons of reinforcing steel installed
- 1,135 auger piles, more than 81,000 feet of deep foundations in all
- a tower just under 200 feet tall
Brasfield & Gorrie is the builder.
Who owns it and who runs it
The hotel is owned by the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority. It is being developed with the Georgia World Congress Center Authority, which also manages the convention center. Hilton will manage the hotel. Songy Highroads and Matthews Southwest Hospitality are the co-developers.
The hotel’s restaurants are being planned with Grey Spaces, the Savannah company led by chef Mashama Bailey and restaurateur Johno Morisano. Hilton named Bailey its chef partner earlier.
Plans include:
- more than 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space
- a 13,000-square-foot ballroom
- five restaurants and bars
- an outdoor pool
- Club Signia, the brand’s club lounge
Why it matters to Savannah
The convention center was expanded first. The hotel is meant to let it bid for larger, longer conventions that need rooms attached to the building.
“The expansion of the Savannah Convention Center gave us the capacity to compete at a new level, and Signia Hilton Savannah represents the next critical step,” said Kelvin Moore, the convention center’s general manager and senior vice president. He said it would let Savannah “compete for business that previously could not consider our destination.”
Danny Hughes, Hilton’s president for the Americas, called Savannah “a premier destination for all types of travelers.”
Mayor Van R. Johnson II and Chester A. Ellis, chairman of the Chatham County Commission, were among those who signed the beam. So was state Rep. Ron Stephens, who represents the 164th District.
Work began a year ago. The authority and Hilton broke ground in October 2025 and said then that the hotel would open in mid-2028. Hilton has not given an opening date.
What it means for you
- No change to traffic yet. The site is on the convention center campus on Hutchinson Island, away from downtown streets. For closures elsewhere, see our road closures page.
- Jobs come later. Hilton has not announced hiring for the hotel yet. We will report when it does.
- For visitors and events: the hotel adds 444 rooms beside the convention center. More on getting around Savannah and things to do.
